Opportunities come knocking once in a while and you’ve just got to grasp hold of them and make the most of them; so when I was offered a supported attempt on the Bob Graham round on Thursday last week I felt I couldn’t say no.
The plan for the weekend had been to run legs 3, 4 & 5 back to back, a quick call to Wayne to see if Karl and he would be interested in coming along for part or all of it revealed that thre was an English Fell championships race thus Karl wouldn’t be around… but there may be an attempt on this weekend so maybe I could support on those legs. Next thing I know I’ve been invited to start at the begining and see how far I get.
20 hours and 44 minutes after starting I finished! Naturally I’m thrilled, especially to have chalked it up 6 weeks ahead of schedule.
Full report will be written up, but in the mean time, I’d like to say a huge thank you goes out to Wynn Cliff and all her team of incredible supporters. I also can’t forget to thank the magnificent Carwyn Philips for being so gracious, genuine and welcoming as I gatecrashed his round attempt. You have to respect a man that finishes in his pyjamas.
